Sunday 23 June 2019 was George Milligan Trophy day at Aylesbury Town Bowls Club.

We welcomed 10 members of the Milligan Family 4 of whom made up one of the teams.

We started with a Spider competition  which was won by Robin Milligan. In total 40 bowlers took part and were split between 2 Sections with the winning team of Section 1 playing the winning team of Section 2.  The Trophy was keenly fought for and was eventually won by Steve Rutland’s team consisting of himself, Joan and Dave Catton and Linda King.  Runners Up were Roger Kane, Norman Maidment, David Hobbs and Mary Rogers.

A total of £300 was raised on the day which will be donated to The Florence Nightingale Hospice on behalf of the Milligan Family.

The weather was kind all afternoon and at the finish we all went in for a fantastic buffet prepared by some of the ladies with many items donated by club members.  A raffle was held with many prizes being donated.  Thanks to all who helped to make it a successful day.

It was a very memorable afternoon and has already been booked for Saturday 20 June 2020 to help celebrate our Centenary.

Come and join us!!

Come and join in the fun.

It is £1.00 to play and £1.00 for food.

We have 4 games of bowls (weather permitting) followed by a social with Burgers or Sausages (Or sometimes even a curry!)

For those that just want to watch – the bar is open!!

Skips are selected then all other players pull out a disc for position and rink.

Skips keep the score and at the end scores are recorded as follows - 3 pts to each person in a winning team - 2 pts to each person for a draw and 1 pt to each person if you lose.

Any player that cooks or does the bar instead of playing is allocated 2 points automatically.

We tried Hoy Bingo last week after playing bowls with great success and are also looking at playing darts or cards some weeks.

At the end of each month there is a pay out to the top scoring bowlers!  (4 Prizes)  This month  -  May  -  was won by Darren Jones and a total of £53.00 went to club funds

Chairman’s Newsletter August 2019

To all Full Members, Social Members and Junior Members

The season is rapidly approaching its end and I personally have again been proud to be a member of ATBC and Chairman for the 3rd year. It has been another successful year, this time the Ladies outperforming the Men in the various external competitions, congratulations to them. I would like to thank everyone (Committee members included) who has volunteered and assisted in maintaining the level of our facility and the service we provide to members and visitors alike I would like to think even more of you will step forward for our Centenary next year, there is always something needing to be done.

You will hopefully notice that the form for the position of the officers of the club for the 2019 / 2020 season is now posted on the noticeboard in the dining room. Other than the normal Committee we are seeking to have 2 new positions for next season those being Vice President and Vice Chairman. Please consider standing for a position on the Committee, "new blood" brings new ideas and it is the only way the club can continue to grow and maintain it's success within the local bowling community

In closing enjoy the rest of the season and I'm looking forward to seeing you at our Finals Weekend (whether you are bowling or supporting your colleagues), The Presidents v Chairman's match, the AGM and our Presentation Evening.

Take care, be safe.

Keith Mead, Chairman
