Disability Bowls

Aylesbury Town Bowls Club operates a policy of inclusivity encouraging people of all abilities to bowl at the club.

The club is fully accessible and has a number of aids, including two special bowls-green wheelchairs. Each year we invite a team from The British Wheelchair Bowlers to a match. We offer our facilities to Stoke Mandeville Hospital Spinal Unit for patients to play bowls and the U3A have a bowls session each week

This year, for the first time we are asking everyone for help in understanding issues that may be preventing people getting the most out of bowls and enjoying being a member of our Club.  In order to have an understanding of what these issues may be we are asking Members to identify any issues that may affect them.

If you are impaired in any way please contact the Club Secretary, in confidence, and we will do everything we can to assist you to be able to play bowls.

We have 2 disabled parking spaces near our main gate and there is a Disabled space in the main Sports Club Car Park.  The path to our main gate is flat and of sufficient width.  We have wide Iron Gates that are unlocked whenever the Club is open.

External access to the clubhouse is via a gently sloping wheelchair friendly ramp.

For those who use wheelchairs the Club have 2 manual wheelchairs for use by members, giving bowlers independence on the rinks.  Disabled access is by a ramp from the path near the Clubhouse to the rinks.

As previously mentioned, the club operates a fully inclusive policy with bowlers with a disability being encouraged to become members and compete with or against non-disabled bowlers. 

The Club has recently achieved Disability Bowls England Registration, which recognises that the Club has passed a comprehensive series of qualifying requirements in order to offer a first-class experience to bowlers with a disability.
